We are celebrating that our architectural design of BIG BIO located in the impressive area of Nordhavn in Copenhagen, is the winner of “Tyndpladeprisen 2022” - a Danish award dedicated to excellent architectural use of sheet metal.
The judges stated;
“An expressive project that stages the mythology of a cinema with an elegant touch. The project is an exemplary recognition of the properties and materiality of sheet metal, which is clarified by the pleated folding.”
Since its opening in 2019, this state-of-the-art movie theatre has become a cultural gathering place that adds something extradentary to the district in Nordhavn.
The modern facade of BIG BIO Nordhavn consists of a folded carpet of aluminium drawing reference to the big red theater curtains, that most people associate with going to the movies, giving the building a unique and expectant expression.
This award is an acknowledgment of a strong collaboration between NREP, HAI Horsens, EKJ Rådgivende Ingeniører, Vestergaard Nielsen A / S, and Arkitema. It shows us that this unique architectural landmark inspires people, creating a sensational feeling in the city space before entering the world of movies.
